Subscriptions

So… I got my Conscious Box last week and I forgot to post it! Ah!

If you aren’t aware, Conscious Box is a subscription service where you receive food and products from eco-friendly and cruelty-free brands. Many of the items are also vegetarian or vegan. It’s a great way to find new socially responsible brands to support, something I’m really trying to do more of. This box is $12 a month with $5 shipping, so at $17 it’s a little more pricey then my other subscriptions but since it helps me try new food and lifestyle products I wanted to try it! If you know any other lifestyle subscriptions, let me know!

In my June Conscious Box:
1. Vega One All-in-One Nutritional Shake, Chocolate
2. Artisana Cashew Butter
3. EBOOST Super Berry Natural Energy Booster
4. KO Denmark Body Lotion
5. Nuti-Masu Life Ocean Salt
6. Lara Bar, Lemon
7. Mighty Leaf Tea, Organic Earl Grey and Organic Spring Jasmine
8. Natural Vitality Energy
9. Savvy Boheme Natural Deodorant
10. The Natural Newborn Bug Repellent
11. Kelp Krunch Seaweed Energy Bar
12. Bonus item: Soap Hope

^If you post on their Facebook page you get an extra item! I didn’t get mine this month, not sure why.

It takes me pretty much the whole month to try everything since they are snack based. So far I’ve only tried the Lara Bar and the deodorant…. I hated the bar. I just don’t like Lara Bars. I’ve tried four and found only one tolerable.

I also tried the Savvy Boheme deodorant. It was weird at first but it was effective. I’d like to try a different scent though because I’m not a fan of peppermint.

I’m not happy about the tea. I feel like I’m the only one person in the world that doesn’t like tea sometimes. I’ve been experimenting with mixing tea into my conditioner and spraying it in my hair after I shower. I haven’t gotten it down to a science yet though.

I’ll probably try the Vita Rocks tomorrow morning. What a cool idea! It’s like Pop Rocks but good for you!

I haven’t decided who to send my post card to. Maybe as a response to someone who sends a letter to my PO Box?!

What interesting natural items have you tried?

Kindness is the best accessory,

Time for My Glam! I love this time of the month, it’s like holiday season with all my subscriptions coming in.

My Glam is similar to Birchbox in almost every way except for the fact that everything comes in a reuseable bag and generally the theme is like a look that you can recreate yourself. Both services cost $10 and are delivered monthly. My Glam is also different in the sense that they do not have royalty points or their own online store.

In My Glam Bag:
NYX Round Lipstick, Vitamin
Philosophy  Take a Deep Breath Moisturizer
Marbella Permanent Eyeliner Pen +
Living Proof Frizz Nourishing Cream

I really like how the bag looks this time! The others were okay but I think this one is the cutest. The glitter is coming off though so it will need to be sprayed with hair spray. Some people have complained that their bags and brushes smell strange but I haven’t experienced that.

I was really impressed with the size of the styling cream! Perfect for traveling and keeping in my purse for emergencies. The eyeliner is easy to use, I’ll let you know in my monthly favorites if I get good use of it.

As for the lipstick… It looks pretty in the picture… That’s it. It is a really unattractive frosty color. I didn’t like it or the previous lipstick My Glam sent at all.

Are you a member of My Glam? It’s a fun concept but after my one-year subscription (it was a Christmas gift) runs out, I don’t think I’ll join again. Some things are fun but now I’m getting things I don’t really want or need, especially since I’m part of so many of these services.

Less then an hour ago I received my June 2012 “Jet Set” themed Birchbox! Yay! Out of all of my subscription services, I’ve always felt the most connected and excited about my Birchbox.

If you haven’t seen these kinds of posts before, Birchbox is a monthly subscription service where for $10 a month you are sent product deluxe samples and full sizes to try out based on a theme and your style quiz.

In my June Birchbox:
John Varvatos Star U.S.A.  (For a Birchbox Man) +
Till Re-useable Bag
Masqueology Pore Minimizing Mask
Stila One Step Bronze
Comodynes Self-Tanning Intensive
theBalm Cosmetic Stainiac

I was really excited about this box! My favorites are the Til re-useable bag (because I always pack my lunch for school and this seems so much less wasteful), the pore minimizing mask, and the lip stain from theBalm. I just tried the Stainiac and dare I say… I like it more then Benefit’s Benetint!

My Stila melted on the way to me, not surprising in this weather!

I understand that it is summer in the USA but I am pretty darn tired of getting bronzing products in my boxes. I’ve received three bronzing primers recently that I never plan on using. I tried on the Stila One Step and it made me look like a shimmery brown mess. I know most people enjoy being bronzed but I actually like my fair complexion. I think I may be in the minority in that way. As for the tanning wipes, I’ll try them out on areas where the sun doesn’t shine so I can even out my skin. Am I the only one that does that? You know what areas I’m talking about, haha.

What did you get in your Birchbox?

(I originally had Masqueology as a + but they confirmed over Twitter that they do not test on animals. )

No makeup favorites this month, as I’m makeup free for the month of May, though I do have some skincare and fashion items.

First is a purse I bought from Little Black Bag. As you know, I’m obsessed with monthly subscription services…. well, I joined another! I don’t plan on purchasing every month, since this service is very pricey. Little Black Bag is a purse and lifestyle service where you pick one item you love the most from a list of products (generally a purse) and then you get two-three other mystery items added to your bag based on availability and your style quiz. Then once you purchase you can trade your items with other members. It’s hard to explain, you’ll just have to experience it yourself because the trading aspect is so much fun! You get over $100 of designer items for only $49.95 (just make sure to “skip this month” if you don’t want to purchase that month).

The above bag was from my first purchase. I’ve been using it like crazy! It fits all of my essentials. This was the Nila Anthony Round Stripe Crossbody. I can’t find it online but you can get other Nila Anthony bags at Karmaloop. I purchased another Little Black Bag as a celebration for my upcoming graduation. I’ll film it for a video next week.

Next, I have my Willa Fresh Foaming Face Wash. I got this sample in a Birchbox and it has lasted me over a month! I love how it makes me feel clean but not striped of moisture. You can see more about this cleanser in my skincare routine.

Then I have my Crystal Essence natural deodarant. I was surprised that this was a favorite. When I first got this in my Shecky’s GNO bag, I hated it. I felt like I was really stinky, to be completely honest. But after a few weeks my body adjusted to it and I’m happy to report I no longer smell! I’ve been curious about natural deodorants since I’ve heard so many horrible things about the chemicals found in more mainstream brands.

Last is my new glasses. I purchased these from Warby Parker. They have an amazing try on service! I would definitely recommend them.

Below are my favorite posts from this month. Check them out if you haven’t already!
