Swag: My Last Eco Emi (December 2011)

I joined Eco Emi a few months ago and really have enjoyed the service and products I have received… but I decided to cancel my subscription. I hope to re-subscribe again in the future but for now I need to have the extra cash. Also, with Birchbox and My Glam subscriptions (which I got a full year of each for Christmas gifts! Thanks Chris and Ana!), I have more then enough monthly products to try.

If you weren’t aware, Eco Emi is an eco friendly subscription service where for $15 a month you are sent a box of samples sized beauty and lifestyle products to try out from eco conscious brands. See my previous blog posts on Eco Emi here.

Thankfully, my last box came with amazing products!

Sorry about the crummy pictures. Working with my iPhone in bad lighting!
This month’s box:
Greenshield Organics Free and Clear Laundry Detergent (which my Mom has already requested to use!)

Coupon codes: Save $5 off your purchase of $20 or more at Maggie’s Organics with the code ECOEMI2011. Get 25% off your first purchase at Wyk Candles with the code ECO-EMI.

My favorite thing so far is the socks! They are so cute!

Have you tried any fun eco conscious products this month?

Last Minute (Special) Gift Cards

Well, Christmas is this Sunday. If you don’t have presents yet…. what are you doing?! If you don’t celebrate Christmas still read this post and save it for other gifting occasions!

Here are some special/not so ordinary gift cards that you can get for your friends or family last minute. Some of them are e-gifts while others you will have to receive in the mail. If they don’t get there by Christmas, just make a card or forward your order confirmation to show them you got it for them.

Fun and special gift cards….

For beauty-lovers

  1. Birchbox: Gift 3-12 months of deluxe beauty samples right at your door! My fiance bought me a year of Birchbox for Christmas so now I get to open up a small gift every month! Who doesn’t want presents every month? See my posts on Birchbox here.
  2. MyGlam: The idea is similar to Birchbox but instead of samples being based around a theme, you get a look in a makeup bag! Each month the bag and the look is different. This is a new service (just launched this month) but my first bag was very impressive.

For parents (I personally would love this but I bought it for my parents and Chris’ parents)

  1. Harry and David Fruit of the Month: I only found out about Harry and David a few months ago and fell in love with the idea. Every month you are sent high quality yummy fruits! What a fun idea! They have options for large and small homes.
  2. Restaurants: Get your parents out of the house! Some (not all) parents tend to give up on their social lives after having kids. Pick someplace expensive that they normally wouldn’t splurge on themselves. A lot of options are available on the perspective restaurants web sites but if not go straight to the restaurant to pick up a physical gift card. You still have time!

*Be careful when getting normal store gift cards for parents. I can’t trust my Mom with them! Instead of treating herself she buys presents for me…. It is the sweetest thing but she clearly didn’t get the point of my present!

Experience-seekers

  1. Groupon: The receiver can buy a vacation, cupcakes at a local bakery, yoga classes, etc! There is so much to choose from daily. You can choose the amount on the card.
  2. Restaurants: Rather then more expensive restaurants, pick some off the beaten path (like themed restaurants or based on foreign country tastes). Check places out on Yelp! If they are local you are going to have to go to their physical location to get a gift voucher.

Stressed friends, family, new parents, etc.:

  1. Massage Envy: A massage gift card is such a treat. If they have youngsters, offer to babysit while they spend their gift card! They also have monthly massage club memberships!

Can you tell I love subscription services?

Swag: Birchbox December 2011

I got in my Holiday themed Birchbox! If you haven’t heard of this service before (or my obsession with it), Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service where for $10 a month you receive 4-5 beauty samples a month. It’s a really fun way to try new products without breaking the bank! Often these samples end up being fairly large and last longer then a month.

This month’s holiday box came with special snowflake packaging and a pink box (normally they are brown). See other boxes to compare here.

Edit to add: Apparently the pink box is for “our most loyal subscribers” – I assume that means how long you have been subscribed (for me = a year!) so you may get the traditional brown box.

In this month’s box:
Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss (Exclusive color to Bircbox called Birchbox Pink!)
Coupon code: Take $20 off any full sized products over $74+! Code bblove valid until 12/31/11.
Note: All proceeds from December full size products will go to Baby Buggy, a non-profit that helps families and children in need. Thanks Birchbox! That’s so sweet. I love when companies give back over the holidays.

They also sent me adorable post-its (shown above) for re-subscribing. So cute!

The only products I’ve tried so far have been the EBOOST and the Jouer lip gloss. I literally got in the package and started blogging it right away! The EBOOST tastes delicious but has a slightly odd after taste. Warning though, if you are laying back on caffeine this won’t be for you. The main ingredient is green tea extract! The lip gloss is also devine. I’m so in love with the color. Everyone else must be as well because it sold out on the Birchbox shop!

Question: Did everyone else that subscribed get two of the EBOOSTs and the ShowStoppers tape? I wasn’t sure if that was a mistake or not.

What samples have you tried and enjoyed this month? Are you a member of Birchbox?

P.S. Current members should check your Birchbox account! Since the box was late this month they sent in 100 reward points to all members! That translates to a free box!

Swag: November Birchbox 2011

This month my Birchbox box was designed to help you start your holiday planning. If you don’t know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription service ($10 a month) where you receive fairly large beauty samples that are sure to please you. It’s pretty lovely for girls like me that love to try new things all the time but don’t want to have to search high and low for good quality. To see what was in my box this month read below and to read my other blog posts on Birchbox click here

In my box this month was:

  1. Zoya Gems & Jewels collection: Noel nail polish
  2. LaROCCA Champagne and Shimmer Acai Sugar Polish
  3. Klorane Soothing Eye Makeup Remover with Cornflower Water
  4. Oscar Blandi Jasmine Protein Mist
  5. Chuao Chocolate Bars

Also, as a treat Birchbox gave 10,000 members with the most rewards points a BaubleBar bracelet! The bracelet is really comfortable. I can see myself layering this with a couple of my mark. and JewelMint bracelets. Have I mentioned how much I love layering bracelets lately?

I’ll try out these products and we’ll see if they end up in my November favorites in a few weeks.

Have you tried Birchbox? Did you qualify for the free bracelet?

October Favorites 2011: Organization, Brows, + More!

{Left to right: Moleskine agendas, Jouer Eye Clarifier in Clair, YBF Automatic Eye Brow Pencil in Universal Taupe, & Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes in Brownish Black}

My favorite products from October is a bit smaller then usual (see all of my favorites posts here). I’ve been focusing a lot on minimal makeup and staying organized as I’m trying to make some changes in my life right now (that sounds much more dramatic then I intend it to be).

After taking A Beautiful MessBlogLove e-course (highly recommended, review coming soon), I’ve learned a lot about organization and how it helps my blog. Thus, I bought new agendas! Technically, I only needed to get one…. but I wanted both of my agenda’s to match. The agenda’s I purchased are from Moleskine. I love them! They are soft and very well put together. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to other brands. I keep one agenda for “life” and the other for my blog and YouTube channel. The left side is perfect to write what I have to do each week and then on the right I keep daily lists or video and blog brainstorms.

For minimal makeup, I’ve been focusing a lot on keeping my brows neat and full. I love full brows because they just scream youth and I have less work to do! To keep my brows really full, I use Your Best Friend (YBF) Automatic Eye Brow Pencil in Universal Taupe (Found on my beloved Birchbox). It is a lifesaver! Anyone with any brow color can use the pencil because when used with a soft hand it is very light but then with more pressure it can be almost black. The brush at the end is also really convenient for blending my brows with the color.

To open up my eyes without making me look like an anime I’ve been using the Jouer Eye Clarifier in Clair (a peach color, also from Birchbox) on my water line. It makes your eyes look wider but not scary-looking big.

{With flash}

For mascara I’ve been using the Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes in Brownish Black. It isn’t my favorite mascara (I don’t have one that I always love) but I have been using it a lot so I thought it warranted a mention. The unique wand makes it easy to maneuver around my lashes.
