Disney Princess Half Marathon (30 Before 30 Update)

in Fitness

In December of 2011 I posted my 30 before 30 list…. and then did pretty much nothing.

To get things moving, I started running in August. Since one of my goals was to run a marathon, I knew that I would need a great deal of time to build that kind of endurance. Some people can get there in a year (like Shay Carl) but I knew my tiny body wouldn’t be able to take it (especially since I’ve never been a very active person) so I’m building it up over the course of a few years. If I can get there before 30 then that would be great but 30 is the for sure goal date.

I run a few days a week now (I’ll do an update on my running workout routine very soon) so I decided I need to amp up my game with a specific goal (Remember goals need to be SMART). I will be runnning the Disney Princess Half Marathon in 2014. In 2014 I’ll be turning 25 (whoa) so that is 5 years until 30 goal. So now I have a little more then a year and a half to get from my maximum of three miles running to 13.1 miles.  It took me about two months to get to three miles (with frequent walk breaks) so I know I’ll need all of this time to get to 13.1.

The Disney Princess Half Marathon is an exciting event held in Orlando every February where princess aficionados run 13.1 miles together. Often people will run in princess costumes or tiaras, which is adorable. I can’t sign up for the 2014 race yet but once tickets open up next year I’ll get them in advance so I’ll have that extra motivation.

The run is held in Orlando in Disney’s Epcot and Magic Kingdon so I’m really excited to have fun afterward in the parks with Chris (assuming I don’t pass out). This event is always held in February.

I’m feeling really pumped! I can’t wait to run today, I’ll have Disney on the brain!

Setting a goal for over a year from now may seem weird to some people but long term goals have always been the best way to motivate me. Not all of my goals pan out but either way I always improve, something I hope I continue to do my whole life.

Do you have any long term goals?

Thank you for reading this post, by the way. Sharing my goals with you really helps me move forward. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Kindness is the best accessory,
