Rebecca’s Delights: My “Diet” & Nutrition

I’ve been asked on several occasions what my diet and nutrition is like. I do have some general rules that I follow but I’m not very strict. I’ve summarized most of it below but for more details and examples watch the above video.

Note: I’m not a professional. Consult your doctor before you make drastic changes in your diet.

I’m lucky to have a fast metabolism by nature but since I generally have small meals or snacks every few hours I’ve accidentally trained myself to have an even faster metabolism and a smaller stomach that gets full quickly. I don’t count my calories, I think a lot of people eat more then they really should when they count calories (just my opinion). I also don’t deprive myself of things I want, I just have it in moderation. For example, I buy my favorite ice cream (Ben & Jerry’s Red Velvet Cake) every other month and have soda once a week. If I’m at a restaurant I almost always get a Caesar salad and a dessert since those are my favorite things in the world. I generally have meat 3-4 times a week, any more then that and I feel sluggish.

My breakfast and snacks are outlined in the video but I didn’t go much into my lunches. Generally I’ll have a PB & J sandwich, left overs from last night’s dinner, share a pizza with Chris, or have a larger snack then usual. I only go to fast food restaurants once or twice a week.

As for my vitamins, I take all of the ones shown in the picture above. Many people don’t find vitamins to be helpful but I can feel a difference in the way my body feels when I don’t have them consistently. I love gummy vitamins because then I find myself looking forward to having my vitamins, which is funny. I also take allergy medicine because I’m allergic to my pets and my Eczema makes me want to scratch my skin.

The miracle worker vitamin for me though has been L-Lysine. I got my first cold sore in middle school (around the same time I got Mono from sharing a lip gloss with a questionable student) and assumed it was a pimple so I tried to pop it. Wow, I really regret that. I have a scar on my lip now because of it. I suffered from cold sores all throughout middle school, high school, and the beginning of college until I heard that L-Lysine could help. When I take it every day, I don’t get cold sores. I didn’t have a cold sore the first year I took it but I thought it could just be a fluke (as if I was magically cured) so I stopped taking it and then two weeks later I got a cold sore… That was proof enough for me! I started taking L-Lysine again and haven’t had a cold sore since. You can get L-Lysine at any drugstore.

So, that’s my nutrition and diet. Remember if you aren’t around junk food, you can’t eat it!
