Today is Tuesday, you’re reading this on Wednesday. As you are reading this, I’ll be taking either my morning final, in a study group, or in my evening final.
These are the last finals I will ever have to take (unless I fail my evening final and have to re-take the class, in which case I’ll be crying my eyes out) in my entire life.
That is crazy.
So, what will I be doing after graduation? Well, technically I graduate in the middle of August but lets just say I’m a graduate tomorrow… Anyway, what am I doing after graduation?
Following my dreams. I’ve mentioned this a few times already but just in case you missed the memo, I’ll be pursuing blogging and video blogging full time. A lot of people may think I’m crazy for this. That I’m not ready. You may be thinking I don’t have enough hits yet or that this career is not stable enough.
Shush your thoughts. I’ve got a plan. I also have some other things going on, but I’ll get into that in a moment.
First and foremost, starting Monday I’ll be updating this blog every single day. I generally post 5-6 times a week so that isn’t a huge change but I just wanted to give you the heads up. Come back here every day! Yay!
Secondly, four of those seven posts (some weeks may have more then seven posts, like when I get in my Birchbox’s, etc.) will be video blogs. Every Sunday you get an episode of The Rebecca and Chris Show (which are now 15 minutes each) and then every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday you will get a beauty or lifestyle video from my YouTube channel rebeccakelsey. Whether you watch those videos on this blog or on YouTube, I’d appreciate if you subscribed to that channel. My goal for this year is 15,000 subscribers!
The Friday videos will be either tutorials, how-to’s, or DIY projects. The Monday and Wednesday videos will be willy-nilly, just whatever beauty or lifestyle topic I’d like to share.
EDIT: Posts are now 5 days a week with 3 videos a week.
My theory behind posting and video blogging this frequently is that there will always be one reminder a day that I have new content for you to see! I notice that when I do videos consistently and frequently, more people come along for the ride, more frequent updates generally means more hits. Don’t worry though, I won’t post junk blog posts just for the sake of putting something up. If the juices aren’t flowing and I can’t find the right content, I won’t put anything up. I won’t let you down!
Video blogging takes a great deal of time. From planning, editing, uploading, and then filling in the description box and blog post it takes about 6-10 hours each. I don’t mind since I actually find the process enjoyable (and editing is really relaxing!) but I just wanted to share that these videos in combination with my other blog posts, answering comments, promoting, and networking makes this blog a full time job. I know a few of my readers are bloggers as well so you know the time it takes but some of you may not know, so just putting that out there.
Now onto the “other things going on” I mentioned earlier…. I got a paid online internship! I originally wasn’t looking for another job but an opportunity presented itself with a new start up website that I know is going to make an impact. Being with the site now as it develops behind te scenes is so interesting! I’m learning so much and have a boss (and friend) named Jennifer that has been a delight. I’ll share more about the website in the Fall when it launches but I’ll be starting my job with them this Friday. I’m going to be in charge of their social media sites, their blog, and categorizing videos for them. The site is going to be very unique, revolving around a community of girls and woman interested in the same topics as this blog! My duties for now will be very different then when it completely launches but I’m really looking forward to it. My official title is “social engagement intern” – how professional sounding! This (for now) will take about 10 hours a week and then more time as the site officially launches.
EDIT: My internship reveal!

So, that is my plan! I’m going to be working from home and saving up every penny I make. Between my videos (I get a certain amount of money per impression), ads on this blog, and the internship I’ll have enough to cover my current bills and start saving up for a home for Chris and I. I’ve also been making some other technical and site-wide changes that I think will help make my blog more enjoyable for you guys. I have a few more changes in mind that I’ll be implementing throughout the next few months.
Chris has a year left of graduate school and then he will be on the market for a job and we can move into our own place. I posted a wedding update earlier you may be interested in. He is completely behind my decision and happy I’ll be working while he finishes up school. Once he gets work we will have more then enough to live and pay our home bills, something I’m so excited about.
This is a risky choice, I know. But I’d rather give my dream my all or nothing at all. I know that I would be miserable if I found a traditional career. It isn’t for me. This is what I need.
I’m so happy to be taking this step. I hope you stick along for the ride as well.
Feel free to put questions in the comments. I’d love to get back to you. Maybe I can even do a question and answer video series?

Congrats Rebecca! I would love to be able to take on YouTube and blogging as a full time job while I’m still in school but I also have a part time job in retail. I’m afraid it would be too risky financially, but I know it’s something I would love to do as well. Also congrats on the internship!! Can’t wait to hear about the website!

It is a wonderful thought, Don’t be afraid to fail be afraid not to try. if you fail once it will be a stepping stone how will you make it better the next time you try it.

This is awesome and you have my congratulations! I think you’re on the right path and you alone can decide where this eventually leads. A paid internship is a very good beginning. So here’s hoping for more success to you!

This is so exciting to hear! I have been following you for about a year (give or take) on YouTube and this blog and I have to say that you are awesome. I’m so happy that you get to do something you are totally passionate about, because not everyone gets to do that (myself included). You are so positive and joyful,it truly makes me happy that you get to do this. I know that this might be weird coming from a complete stranger, but still, congratulations, you deserve everything good coming your way. I wish you and Chris the best, and I look forward to your updates!

First of all, I must say…you are awesome!!! I know that it’s not easy to just step out on a limb like this but I know you have tons of support so you’ll be fine(I just know it)! A few years ago, I made a pretty big move in my life and I was soo afraid. A friend of mine told me how proud she was of me and how brave I was for making the choice. She told me that being brave or courageous is doing something that no matter how difficult or scary it may be…you do it anyway. I will continue to watch your videos and read your blogs as my way of supporting you. Congratulations on a great choice!!!! YOU ARE BRAVE!!!

I have read your article and i really liked it. I have read the bullet points and i completely agree with you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Congrats again! I have totally been there where you are on the edge of making what is something your heart is telling you to do but your logical side is not completely sure of. I switched from an easy and well paying job as a chemist to become a middle school science teacher (not the highest paying job out there, lol) but i love it and havent looked back. More people should be like you and plan for their dreams. Its not about just leaping into something blind, it really seems like you have given everything a lot of thought and thats not crazy at all! Wishing you the best!
